Warthogs, known as the naked swine of the savanna, get their name from the large warts found on their head. Through conserving moisture inside their body Warthogs can tolerate higher than normal body temperatures
Their lack of hair and body fat leaves them very poorly insulated, causing them to adop a range of strategies for keeping warming including huddling together.
A group of warthogs is known as a sounder, with females typicaly living in a sounder of three adult females and their offspring. Females and their young travel typically travel around 4 miles during the day to forage and return to secure sleeping burrows by dusk. Females cooperate in caring for offspring and will often foster and nurse offspring of another member of the sounder if they lose their own offspring.
